SAN DIEGO - Junior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) went 3-for-3 with a three-run homer to give the San Diego State softball team a 4-1 victory over New Mexico Thursday night at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs (20-12, 1-0 Mountain West), who are receiving votes in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, have now won eight consecutive games.

SDSU got all four of its runs in the bottom of the third inning. Sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) had a one-out single, stole second and moved to third on an illegal pitch. After senior Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif.) drew a walk and stole second, Jordan scored on a throwing error by Lobo (16-21, 0-1 MW) pitcher Lauren Soles, that allowed senior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) to get all the way to second base. One batter later, Jackson drilled a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall for the eventual game-winning runs.

Jackson, who was named the Mountain West Player of the Week on March 19 after San Diego State's last outings, is now hitting .609 (14-for-23) with five homers, 16 RBIs and eight runs over the last eight games. She has seven home runs this year.

Jackson also added a double and a single for the Aztecs. Jordan had two hits and two stolen bases, while junior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS), redshirt freshman Victoria Kobold (Concord, Calif.) and freshman Monica Downey (San Diego/Madison HS) each singled.

UNM got its run in the sixth when a single by Courtney Geith scored Karissa Haleman.

Senior right-hander Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) got the win for SDSU after allowing one run on six hits and two walks over seven innings. She had seven strikeouts. Arbino (11-7) stranded 10 New Mexico baserunners for the game, including bases loaded in the fourth and sixth, respectively.

San Diego State and the Lobos meet again at 6 p.m. PT Friday night.
