SAN DIEGO - The No. 6 San Diego State Water Polo team swept two games at the 2013 Aztec Mini on Saturday, defeating Brown, 11-5, and knocking off Redlands, 12-5, at Aztec Aquaplex.
In the first victory of the day against Brown, senior Amber Pezzolla scored five goals to lead the Aztecs, while sophomore Taelor Moreno finished with three scores. Redshirt freshman Bailey Wickliffe, senior Alex Ford and sophomore Kelli Boling also added goals for SDSU (18-7), which pulled away in the second half with three goals in the third period and three more in the fourth.
In SDSU's win against Redlands to end the day, freshman Nikole Ferrari scored a game-high three goals, while Pezzolla added two. Senior Rachel Miller, sophomore Carina Carballo, Boling and freshmen Nika Sedghi, Madeline Schwartz, Claire McKinnon and Frankie Libutti scored one goal apiece, as the Aztecs scored five in the third period to extend their lead to 9-3 entering the fourth.
The Aztecs head to Hawaii for three games next weekend. First, SDSU takes on UC San Diego on Thursday March 28, beginning at 4:30 p.m. HT, before facing Hawai'i on Friday and Stanford on Saturday.
