GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The San Diego State women's golf team maintained its 13th-place standing from the previous day after firing a 21-over par 301 on Sunday during the final round of the SunTrust Gator Invitational at the University of Florida. The Aztecs logged their lowest team score of the tournament to finish with a collective 75-over 915 on the par-70, 6,002-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course.
Individually, Paige Spiranac (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was SDSU's highest finisher, tying for the 24th position with a combined 12-over 222. The Aztec sophomore sank birdies on two of her first six holes, but was unable to overcome four bogeys and a double-bogey down the stretch, settling for final-round 75.
Emma Henriksen (Malmö, Sweden) wound up one shot behind Spiranac at 13-over 223 after carding a 74 over the final 18 holes. The SDSU freshman endured a similar rough spell of four bogeys and a double-bogey before rebounding with three birdies and four pars to end the day in a tie for 28th.
Meanwhile, Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) fired a 74 as well on Sunday to climb seven places into a tie for 58th at 21-over 231. Despite logging five bogeys on the back nine, the Aztec senior still managed her lowest round of the tournament after draining a pair of birdies during that stretch.
Sophomore Kristina Lynn (Carlsbad, Calif.) also saved her best for last with a final-round 78 to finish in 76th at 35-over 245, while junior Rebecca Schneider (Cave Creek, Ariz.) landed two steps down the ladder in 78th at 41-over 251.
Alabama (+25) held off Oklahoma (+28) and host Florida (+30) to capture the team title, while Oklahoma State (+37) and Virginia (+37) tied for the fourth spot in the field of 15 schools.
On the individual leaderboard, Oklahoma's Chirapat Jao-Javanil (-4) maintained her second-round lead Sunday to claim medalist honors over Portland Rosen (+1) of Virginia.
The Aztecs will have two weeks off before playing host to the SDSU Farms Invitational, March 31-Apr. 2, at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
