Bauer Powers Softball Past Miami, 13-0, in Five

SAN DIEGO - Junior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) homered, doubled and drove in five runs to lead the San Diego State softball team to a 13-0, five-inning victory over Miami (OH) Wednesday night at SDSU Softball Stadium.

The Aztecs (14-12) had a season-high 13 runs and 11 RBIs in the contest, to go along with 13 hits. Over the past two games, SDSU has 23 runs, 21 RBIs and 28 hits in 12 innings.

Bauer finished 3-for-3 for the game and has pushed her batting average over .400 to the .402 mark. She now leads San Diego State in batting average, hits (33), doubles (11), home runs (7), RBIs (27), total bases (69), slugging percentage (.841) on on-base percentage (.449).

Junior Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) added two RBIs, two runs and a walk, while sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) led off the game with a homer, and scored two runs and drew two walks.

Senior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) was 2-for-2 with two runs and a walk, and junior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) and freshman Leia Ruiz (Chino, Calif.) each had two hits, an RBI and a run scored.

The offense was plenty for the 1-2 punch of freshman left-hander Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.) and senior right-hander Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.), who combined on the three-hit shutout. O'Toole (6-5) allowed just one hit and a walk over four innings, while striking out two. Arbino pitched the fifth and yielded two hits and a walk with one strikeout.

The Aztecs play host to Bryant (3:30 p.m. PT) and San Jose State (6 p.m. PT) in a doubleheader tomorrow.
