TEMPE, Ariz. - Junior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) had a three-run homer and sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) added a key two-run single to lift the San Diego State softball team to a come-from-behind 7-5 win over Northwestern Friday at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. Senior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) went a combined 5-for-6 on the day for the Aztecs (2-1), who lost to Stephen F. Austin, 2-1, earlier in the day.

In the nightcap, SDSU scored seven consecutive runs after yielding two in the bottom half to the Wildcats (0-2), who were receiving votes in both national preseason polls. NU scored three more in the sixth, but San Diego State held onto the 7-5 victory.

Trailing, 2-1, in the fifth, May and redshirt junior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) had back-to-back singles with two outs to keep the inning alive. Bauer then drilled a 0-1 pitch over the left field fence. Bauer, the school's all-time leader in home runs (30), already has two this year in three games.

The Aztecs tacked on three more runs in the top of the sixth thanks in large part to Jordan. First, Jordan had a one-out single to score freshman Monica Downey (San Diego/Madison HS) and junior Dominique Dinner (Monterey, Calif.), who both reached on singles. Jordan then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) and scored when the Northwestern right fielder was unable to handle May's fly ball.

The Wildcats responded with three runs in the bottom half, but had their rally cut short when centerfielder Dinner threw out Olivia Duehr at the plate after a Mari Majam single.

Kamerin May had three hits and an RBI single in the third to pace the offense, while Bauer, Dinner (two runs) and Jackson added two hits apiece. Downey singled and drew two walks for SDSU.

Redshirt senior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) earned the win after scattering five runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks over seven innings. She struck out three to improve to 2-0 on the season.

In the opener, San Diego State managed only three hits against Ladyjack (1-1) pitcher Carlie Thomas in the 2-1 loss.

Cadie Weaver gave SFA the early lead with a one-out solo home run on a 0-2 count in the top of the first.

The Aztecs tied it in the second, taking advantage of a pair of Stephen F. Austin errors, with freshman Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.) scoring her first collegiate run.

The game remained 1-1 until the seventh when Weaver's one-out single through the right side plated Rylie Chappell.

SDSU tried to tie the game up in the bottom of the seventh when freshman Kayla Bufardeci (Castro Valley, Calif.) hit a one-out double. She was replaced by redshirt freshman Victoria Kobold (Concord, Calif.), who moved to third on a groundout by senior Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif.). Sophomore Kaitlin Connors (San Diego/La Costa Canyon HS), however, struck out swinging to end the game.

May was 2-for-2 with a walk to lead the offense. Bufardeci was the only other San Diego State player to reach base safely with her one-out double in the seventh.

O'Toole (0-1) took the loss in the circle after allowing one run on five hits and three walks over 4 1/3 innings. She struck out six. Bauer started the game and gave up one run on a hit and a walk over two innings, while striking out two. Arbino retired the only two batters she faced following Weaver's RBI single.

The Ladyjacks' Thomas allowed one unearned run on three hits and a walk. She had four strikeouts.

The Aztecs wrap up their Kajikawa Classic competition Saturday with games against Western Michigan (11:30 a.m. MT) and No. 13/14 Arizona (2 p.m. MT).
