SAN DIEGO - Junior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) and senior Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) combined to go 7-for-7 with five RBIs and five doubles to lead the San Diego State softball team to a 9-1 run-rule victory over Brigham Young in five innings Thursday night at SDSU Softball Stadium.

In a game that featured each of the past eight Mountain West champions, the Aztecs (9-7) scored a run in the bottom of the second, four in the third and four in the fifth to pick up their second run-rule win of the season. Three of the previous four meetings between the two teams were 1-0 decisions and four of the previous five were one-run contests, but SDSU put the game away early thanks to Bauer and May.

Bauer was 4-for-4 with three doubles, which tied an NCAA record according to the 2013 NCAA record book, two runs and two RBIs. May, meanwhile, was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, two doubles and a run scored.

Junior Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) was 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, a walk and a run, while senior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) had two hits, an RBI and a run.

Sophomore Kaitlin Connors (San Diego/La Costa Canyon HS) drew a bases loaded walk for her first RBI of the season, and juniors Dominique Dinner (Monterey, Calif.), Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) and Stefani Polonia (Pico Rivera, Calif./Towson Univ.), and freshman Monica Downey (San Diego/Madison HS) all scored a run.

The offense was plenty for freshman left-hander Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.). O'Toole (3-3) allowed one run on seven hits and a walk over five innings, while striking out seven. She has now given up just two earned runs over her past 29 innings (0.48 ERA).

San Diego State continues its play in the San Diego Classic I tomorrow with a game against Long Beach State, beginning at 7 p.m. PT.
