THIS WEEK
The San Diego State swimming and diving team will be in San Antonio, Texas, to compete at the Mountain West championships to be conducted from Wednesday, Feb. 20 through Saturday, Feb. 23. This marks the first year that the meet will be held at the Palo Alto College Aquatic Center in San Antonio. The meet was held in Oklahoma City each of the previous 13 years. San Diego State will be looking to regain the league championship that it won in 2011 and lost by just five points to Boise State in 2012.

HEAD COACH Mike Shrader
San Diego State head coach Mike Shrader is in his sixth season with the Aztecs and has compiled a dual meet record of 70-13 (.844) during his tenure. Shrader has been named the Mountain West Coach of the Year on three occasions (2011, 2010, co-coach in 2009). Including eight seasons as the head coach at Nevada, his career record stands at 165-26-1 (.862).
SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK
Three Aztecs earned Mountain West Swimmer of the Week honors during the 2012-13 season:
• Mikaela Macklin earned the award on Oct. 10 after finishing first overall in the pentathlon against the University of San Diego.
• Melanie Garibaldi received the honor on Oct. 24 for her effort at the Pacific Invitational where she won three individual races and one relay.
• Katelyn Weddle was named the MW Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 21 for her performance in the breaststroke races during the Arena Invitational. Her times in both of those events were the best in the conference his season and were NCAA "B" Cut marks.
DIVER OF THE WEEK
Junior anna Steiner captured conference Diver of the Week honors on Jan. 9 after she won both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards in the dual meet against Tulane. While doing so she set a career best on the 1-meter and a season best on the 3 meter.
THE STREAK ENDS
San Diego State saw its lengthy dual meet win streak come to an end with the loss at UCLA on January 12. SDSU had won its last 45 straight meets dating back to the 2009-10 season prior to the loss to the Bruins. The Aztecs' last loss came against Wyoming on Jan. 29, 2010, in Laramie. San Diego State also had its streak of 55 straight wins against non-conference opponents ended as well. The last loss to a non-Mountain West team had been a defeat at North Texas on Nov. 17, 2006. In current Head Coach Mike Shrader's four seasons at SDSU, the Aztecs have now lost only one dual meet to a non-conference foe.
SCHOOL RECORDS SET
Aztec individual swimmer set a pair of San Diego State senior swimmers set school records this season, both during the Arena Invitational (Nov. 15-17). Melanie Garibaldi swam a 4:15.24 in the 400 IM to record the best time in school history. Gemma Johnson added a new Aztec all-time best in the 100 butterfly with a mark of 53.36. Garibaldi improved her school record time by 1.51 second while Johnson bettered her previous school record mark by .15 second. In addition, diver anna Steiner established a school record on the 1-meter springboard when she recorded a mark of 317.30 during the diving against the University of San Diego.
RANKINGS
San Diego State has found itself within and just outside the Endless Polls/CollegeSwimming.com Top 25 national rankings over the course of the 2012-13 season. In the latest edition (Feb. 19) the Aztecs are ranked 34th. They are the only mountain West team ranked in the top 50.
