HONOLULU, Hawaii - The No. 66 San Diego State Men's Tennis team rallied after losing the doubles point to defeat Pacific, 4-3, in a thrilling match on Saturday in Hawaii.
SDSU (6-3, 1-0 MW) won singles matchups in the No. 1-4 slots, which wound up being just enough for the Aztecs to pull out their second-consecutive victory. No. 104 Derek Siddiqui led the way for SDSU, topping Alex Golding, 6-2, 7-5, in No. 1 singles play, while sophomore Thorsten Bertsch added a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sem Verbeek in the No. 2 slot.
Junior Hunter Nicholas responded after losing his first set to knock off Ben Mirkin in No. 3 singles play, 2-6, 7-5, 6-0, and freshman Marvin Tawasi earned his first victory as an Aztec with a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Alex Hamilton at No. 4, which sealed the dual-match victory. Siddiqui and sophomore Andranik Khachatryan got a win over Trevor James and Daniel Alameh, 8-2, in No. 2 doubles action, but Pacific (5-3) was able to claim the doubles point to begin the day.
The Aztecs finished 2-0 on their Hawaii road trip, and return home to face Boise State in Mountain West play on Sunday, Feb. 24 at Aztec Tennis Center.
