SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's golf team opens its 2013 spring schedule on Monday when it participates in The Prestige at PGA WEST, Feb. 18-20, in La Quinta, Calif. The Aztecs are one of 15 squads slated to compete at the 13th annual event on the par-71, 7,046-yard Greg Norman Resort Course, with Stanford and UC Davis serving as co-hosts.

The tournament will be contested with 18-hole rounds on each of the three days and features the ninth-highest rated field in the nation. Along with No. 61 SDSU, The Prestige includes second-ranked UCLA, No. 4 Washington, 10th-ranked USC, No. 12 Stanford, 15th-ranked TCU and No. 16 Oklahoma State.

The premier field also boasts highly ranked schools in Texas Tech (35), UC Davis (52), Oregon (53), Colorado (77) and Fresno State (88) and Pepperdine (117), while Stirling University of Scotland rounds out the list of competing teams.

Aztec head coach Ryan Donovan will bring five golfers to the Palm Springs region, including seniors Tom Berry (New Haw, Surrey, England) and Cameron Tennant (Woodland Hills, Calif.), junior Austin Kaiser (Atascadero, Calif.), sophomore Xander Schauffele (San Diego, Calif.) and freshman Riccardo Michelini (Carpi, Italy).

SDSU posted two fifth-place finishes during its 2012 fall slate at the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational, Sept. 17-18, in Bremerton, Wash., and at the Alister McKenzie Invitational, Oct. 18-19, in Fairfax, Calif. In addition, Berry captured the individual title at the PING-Golfweek Preview, Sept. 23-25, in Alpharetta, Ga. Heading into the spring, Berry leads the Aztecs with a 72.08 stroke average, followed by Schauffele (72.25) and Michelini (72.45).

The Prestige at PGA WEST was a fixture on the fall portion of college men's golf schedule for 12 years before moving to the spring in 2013. Oregon is the defending champion after holding off Washington by two strokes, while the Aztecs finished fourth, 11 shots off the pace back in October 2011.

Following The Prestige at PGA WEST, SDSU will return to the course, Feb. 25-26, when it competes at the North Ranch Intercollegiate in Westlake Village, Calif.
