SAN DIEGO (Feb. 16) - Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) tossed a complete game four-hit shutout to lead the San Diego State softball team to a 4-0 victory over Notre Dame Saturday night at the 23rd annual Campbell/Cartier Classic at SDSU Softball Stadium.

For the game, Arbino (5-2) allowed just four hits (three singles) and a walk over seven innings, while striking out seven. It was her first shutout of the year, fifth as an Aztec and 14th of her career as she lowered her season ERA to 1.33.

The SDSU (5-4) offense backed Arbino with nine hits, including three (two singles, one double) by Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.). Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) (solo home run) and Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) (RBI) each went 2-for-3, while Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) drove in a pair of runs. Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) also reached base twice safely via single and a walk.

San Diego State, which is receiving votes in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, scored first in the bottom of the third inning when Jordan scored on a sacrifice fly by Kamerin May. Jordan had singled, stole second and moved to third on a Mathis single.

In the fourth, Jackson led off with a booming home run well over the left field wall. It was her second of the season and 13th of her career, which moved her into sole possession of sixth place on the Aztecs' career charts.

SDSU added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth, thanks in part to some hustle from Mathis. Mathis led off with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Kamerin May's grounder to the Fighting Irish shortstop Chloe Saganowich. On the play, Saganowich tried to get Mathis at home, but Mathis slid under the tag for the third run. Later in the inning, Victoria Kobold (Concord, Calif.) scored on a single by Kristin May.

San Diego State wraps up its play at the Campbell/Cartier Classic at 1:30 p.m. Sunday against UC Riverside.
