SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State softball team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 24/22 Kentucky on the first day of the 23rd annual Campbell/Cartier Classic Thursday night at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs, who are receiving votes in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, fell to 3-3 on the season with their second consecutive loss to a nationally ranked team, while the Wildcats improved to 6-2.

San Diego natives Kaitlin Connors (La Costa Canyon HS), Kayla Jordan (Bonita Vista HS) and Monica Downey (Madison HS) each singled for SDSU, while redshirt junior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) drew two walks on a combined nine pitches.

UK pitcher Kelsey Nunley kept San Diego State off balance all night, allowing the three singles and two walks over the complete game shutout. Nunley also struck out seven to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Despite the three hits, the Aztecs had plenty of chances to score, but finished 0-for-13 with runners on base, 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and 0-for-1 with the bases loaded. SDSU left seven on base, including bases loaded in the sixth and two on in the third.

Redshirt senior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) took the loss after giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits and a walk over six innings. The right-hander struck out six, while dropping to 3-2 on the year. Freshman Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.) tossed a scoreless inning of relief, yielding two hits and a walk.

Alice O'Brien and Christian Stokes each had two hits and two RBIs for Kentucky.

San Diego State continues its play at the Campbell/Cartier Classic Friday night with games against No. 2/1 Oklahoma (6 p.m. PT) and Cal Poly (8:15 p.m. PT).
