YORBA LINDA, Calif. - Despite slipping one spot in the team standings, the San Diego State women's golf team completed its highest finish of the 2012-13 campaign on Tuesday after placing fourth at The Gold Rush presented by Farmers Insurance at the 6,077-yard, par-72 Yorba Linda Country Club.

The Aztecs fired a collective 30-over 318 during the final round to complete the 11-school tournament at 77-over 941, just three shots in back of UC Irvine, which took third with a 74-over 938. Host Long Beach State captured the team title at 53-over 917, comfortably ahead of runner-up Gonzaga (+63, 927).

Individually, second-round leader Emma Henrikson (Malmo, Sweden) dropped to third after carding an 82 on Tuesday to finish with a combined 10-over 226. The SDSU freshman was plagued by five bogeys and two double-bogeys over the final 18 holes, opening the door for Gonzaga's Raychelle Santos (+8, 224) to grab medalist honors, while Shawnee Martinez (+9, 225) placed second.

On the other hand, Christine Wong (Richmond, British Columbia) made a significant move in the third round, climbing out of a four-way tie for 20th into an identical logjam at the 10th spot. The SDSU senior closed with two straight birdies, carding a team-best 3-over 75 during the final round en route to a 19-over 235 for the tournament.

Elsewhere, sophomore Paige Spiranac (Scottsdale, Ariz.) trimmed three strokes off her second-round score, carding a 7-over 79 to finish her first event as an Aztec in 26th place at 24-over 240, while Kristina Lynn (Carlsbad, Calif.) tied for 34th with two other players after shooting an 82 for a three-round total of 27-over 243. The SDSU starting five also included junior Rebecca Schneider (Cave Creek, Ariz.), who wound up in a tie for 62nd at 44-over 260 following a final round 84.

In addition, two golfers competed as individuals for the Scarlet and Black this week, including sophomore Amy Alston (Mission Viejo, Calif.), who vaulted from the 43rd position into a four-way tie for 27th at 25-over 241 after shooting a 76 on Tuesday. Meanwhile, junior Maureen Dunnagan (Lexington, S.C.) ended the tournament in 64th (+45, 261).

The Aztecs return to the course in two weeks when they travel to the Bay Area for the Cal Classic, Feb. 25-26, at Ruby Hill Golf Club in Pleasanton, Calif.
