SAN DIEGO - San Diego State student-athletes recently garnered honors from the Mountain West for their work in the classroom. Forty-one Aztecs from 15 different sports were tabbed 2012 MW Scholar-Athletes, as each boasts a cumulative grade point average over 3.5.

Three San Diego State student-athletes, sophomore Marianne Hogan, junior Josefine Koskinen and freshman Monique Martinez, were each selected twice as members of both the cross country team and track and field squad. This is the third year in a row that Koskinen, who is majoring in sociology, has been tabbed in two different sports. Also honored for the third consecutive year was junior football player D.J. Shields, who has accumulated an impressive 3.83 GPA in civil engineering. Hogan, meanwhile, has been honored in two different sports for the second consecutive year.

To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
