SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State junior setter Johnna Fouch and senior middle blocker Andrea Hannasch have been named to the 2012 AVCA All-West Region Volleyball Team. It marks the second consecutive year that Hannasch has been honored and the first time for Fouch. It is also the first time that the Aztecs have placed two players on the all-region first team.
Hannasch finished the season averaging 2.93 kills, 1.41 digs, 1.01 blocks and 3.67 points per set while hitting at a .301 clip. She ended her time at San Diego State second on the SDSU career list in block assists. She was a three-time all-Mountain West selection and last season earned honorable mention AVCA All-America accolades.
Fouch was an all-conference selection for the second straight season as the Mountain West Setter of the Year. In 2012 she averaged 9.27 assists and 2.14 digs per set despite splitting time at her position over the first half of the campaign. Her stats in league play included 10.88 assists and 2.28 digs per set. Fouch recorded 11 double-doubles (assists-digs) this past season including seven in the Aztecs' final nine matches.
Hannasch and Fouch helped lead the Aztecs to their most successful season in recent history as SDSU compiled a record of 23-8 overall and claimed their first-ever Mountain West championship with a 13-3 record in conference play. SDSU also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2001 season and finished with its best overall record since 1995.
