SDSU OPENS THREE-MATCH HOME STAND VS. AIR FORCE THURSDAY
After a pair of road wins against the third and fourth-place teams in the Mountain West (UNLV and Fresno State), San Diego State will begin a three-match home stand later this week. On Thursday, Nov. 8, the Aztecs will take on Air Force at 7:00 p.m. on Aztec Court in Peterson Gym. Two days later (Saturday, Nov. 10) the Aztecs will return to Aztec Court to face Boise State at 7:00 p.m. The home stand will conclude with a match vs. University of san Diego next Wednesday (Nov. 14). San Diego State (9-3 MW) enters the week in first place in the Mountain West, a half-game ahead of both Colorado State (8-3 MWW) and UNLV (8-3 MW). Those teams face each other Thursday evening in Fort Collins.
SENIOR NIGHT
Saturday's contest against Boise State has been designated Senior Night since it is SDSU's final weekend home match of the season Prior to that evening's match, the Aztecs will honor a pair of seniors for their accomplishments during their four-year careers at San Diego State: middle blocker Andrea Hannasch and libero Kristi Jackels.
STREAKING
San Diego State has won its last seven straight matches and nine of its last 10. SDSU's last loss came at Boise State on Oct. 11. The seven-match winning streak is the Aztecs longest since the 1996 campaign when they also won seven in a row. That year SDSU finished with a record of 22-13 overall and 13-3 in the Western Athletic Conference. That was the last season in which San Diego State won as many as 20 matches. They enter the week with a record of 18-7 with five regular-season contests remaining.
SERIES RECORDS
San Diego State holds a 30-2 mark in its previous 31 meetings with Air Force including five-set win in Colorado Springs earlier this season. The teams first met in 1996 while both were members of the Western Athletic Conference. Air Force's wins over SDSU came in Colorado Springs in 1999 and 2010. The Aztecs are 16-0 vs. the Falcons in San Diego, 13-2 in Colorado Springs and 1-0 at neutral sites.
The Aztecs and Boise State have met just four times previously with SDSU winning on three of those four occasions. The Broncos defeated San Diego State in four sets in Boise in mid-October. The first meeting between the teams occurred at the Red Raider Classic in Lubbock, Texas, during the 2005 season with SDSU taking a three-set win. The Aztecs won both meeting with the Broncos in 2011.
NASH NAMED MW PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Summer Nash was named the Mountain West Player of the Week on Nov. 5. She came off the bench in both matches last week while helping the Aztecs to a pair of 3-1 road wins over UNLV and Fresno State as San Diego State moved into first place in the Conference. For the week, Nash averaged 4.75 kills, 0.75 blocks and 0.25 digs per set, while hitting at a .531 clip. She averaged 5.38 points per set over four total sets.
HANNASCH LEADS OFFENSE
Andrea Hannasch has averaged 3.14 kills, 1.19 blocks and 1.86 digs per set over the Aztecs' last five matches. She has reached double figures in kills in each of those five contests and 11 of the last 12. Hannasch notched her first double-double of the season with 11 kills and 10 assists in the win at Fresno State on Nov. 3.
JACKELS DIGGIN' IT
Libero Kristi Jackels has averaged 5.63 digs per set over SDSU's last four matches. She has recorded 20 or more digs in a match on seven occasions during the 2012 season. She set her season high with 28 digs in the four-set win over Colorado State on Oct. 25. Jackels tied her season high with three points in the win at UNLV on Nov. 1 with a kill and a pair of service aces.
WABER ON THE OFFENSIVE
Over SDSU's last four matches, Michelle Waber has averaged 4.06 kills and 4.59 points per set. She has been in double figures in kills in each of the last five contests. Her 18 kills against Wyoming (Oct. 27) was her second-highest output of the season.
FOUCH'S BEST EFFORTS
Setter Johnna Fouch recorded a season-high 61 assists in the win at Fresno State on Nov. 3. Her four blocks assists and four total blocks were both her season highs. She completed her seventh double-double of the year with 14 digs in that match as well. She has recorded double-doubles in each of SDSU's last three matches.
HARRIS ON THE BLOCK
Emily Harris has emerged as the team's leading blocker averaging 1.28 per set. With 126 blocks assists she is tied for the tenth spot on the SDSU top 10 list for block assists in a season. Harris turned in a personal season high 12 kills in the win at Fresno State on Nov. 3 Her .600 hitting percentage in that match was her second highest of the year.
AMONG THE MW LEADERS
Several Aztecs ranks among the top 10 in various categories in the Mountain West statistics. Emily Harris is fourth in hitting percentage (.325) and fifth in blocks (1.28/set). Andrea Hannasch is seventh in blocks (1.08/set), ninth in hitting percentage (.287) and 10th in points (3.58/set). Johnna Fouch is sixth is assists (8.66/set). Kristi Jackels is seventh in digs (4.11/set). Summer Nash is 10th in kills (3.04/set).
MOVING UP THE CHARTS
Three current Aztecs moved into the top 10 on the SDSU career lists in various categories last season and continue to move up the charts.
*** Andrea Hannasch's three-year total of 458 block assists moves her into the number-two spot on the SDSU all-time list. The all-time leader is Jennifer Miller (1989-92) with 480 block assists.
*** Kristi Jackels has compiled 1,781 digs during her time as an Aztec to rank second in that category. Aime Cordeiro (2004-07) is the all-time leader with 1,974 career digs.
*** Setter Johnna Fouch's mark of 3,262 career assists place her third. The second spot is held by Melissa Wright (2000-02) with 3,865 assists.
AZTEC NOTES
The Aztecs have lost back-to-back matches only once this season ... Halle Aiken tied her career best with 11 digs in the win at UNLV on Nov. 1 ... The team's .333 hitting percentage in the victory at Fresno State on Nov. 3 was its second-highest of the 2012 campaign ... The win over Colorado State on Oct. 25 ended a string of 22 straight losses to the Rams dating back to the 2002 season ... Defensive specialist Courtney Vaccarello has averaged 2.50 digs per set over the last three matches ... Setter Johnna Fouch (assists-digs) has recorded seven double-doubles this season to lead the team. Outside hitter Michelle Waber (kills-digs) has three and Chloe Mathis (assists-digs) has two while Raegan Shelton and Andrea Hannasch have one (kills-digs) ... Andrea Hannasch and Emily Harris are the only two Aztecs to have started every match this season. Senior Kristi Jackels has also been the starting libero for every match in 2012. They are the only three Aztecs to appear in all 102 sets in 2012.
