SAN DIEGO -- The No. 6/9 San Diego State women's soccer team earned a No. 2 seed in the 2012 NCAA Championships, the selection committee announced today. The Aztecs (19-1-1) will play host to Cal State Northridge at 7 p.m. PT on Saturday, Nov. 10 at SDSU Sports Deck.

San Diego State's No. 2 seed in the NCAA bracket is the highest ever in program history and for a Mountain West squad, surpassing the No. 4 seeds received by former members BYU and Utah in the 2005 and 2006 NCAA tournaments, respectively.

The Aztecs are fresh off their second Mountain West Conference tournament championship after defeating UNLV in the semifinals and then defeating New Mexico to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. San Diego State is making its fourth trip to postseason play, with the last coming in 2009.

SDSU, unbeaten in its last 13 outings and winners of 12 straight, will take on a Matador squad that finished their campaign with an 11-4-6 record, while earning their first trip to NCAA Tournament in program history. Cal State Northridge clinched its spot in postseason play on Sunday when they won the Big West title with a 1-0 overtime win against Cal State Fullerton.

This will be the first time since 2009 that the two teams have squared off. San Diego State owns the all-time series lead by a 4-3 margin and the Aztecs are 3-2 in contests held in San Diego. This season, SDSU holds a 2-0 advantage against teams in the Big West with victories over UC Irvine (3-2) and UC Santa Barbara (3-1).

The winner of the SDSU-Cal State Northridge game will play the winner of No. 22 Pepperdine (14-6) or No. 23/17 California (15-5) in second-round action on either Nov. 16.
