Men's Golf Travels to Hawaii For Final Fall Outing

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's golf team is set to compete in the St. Regis Princeville Warrior-Wave Invitational from Nov. 5-7. The three-day tournament will be held at the par-72, 7,233-yard St. Regis Princeville Resort Makai Golf Club in Princeville, Kaua'i, Hawaii.

First day action gets underway at 7:30 a.m. HT for the first two rounds and at 8:00 a.m. HT for the final round. There will be 18 holes each day, combining for a total of 54 holes for the competition. Live scoring will be available on golfstat.com.

Along with host teams University of Hawai'i and Pepperdine University, the field includes 13 other teams from around the country including Baylor, Cal State Fullerton, East Tennessee State, Fresno State, Georgia Southern, Indiana, North Carolina State, Pepperdine, UAB, UC Irvine, San Diego, UC Santa Barbara and Xavier.

Tenth-year head coach Ryan Donovan will bring along senior Tom Berry, who has had a stellar fall season including claiming the individual crown at the Ping-Golfweek Preview which led to Berry being named the Mountain West Golfer of the Month for September. Also making the trip will be sophomore Xander Schauffele, freshman Riccardo Michelini, junior Austin Kaiser and freshman Kevin Ko.

The Aztecs recently finished 5th out of 16 teams at the two-day, three-round Alister MacKenzie Invitational on Oct. 16. SDSU posted a final-round 291 to move its 54-hole total to 2-under 850. The 19th-ranked Aztecs trailed former Mountain West rival, BYU, by six strokes for fourth place at the par-71, 6,795-yard Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.

Sophomore Xander Schauffele was SDSU's top finisher for the first time this season, finishing even par-71 on his final 18 holes. Schauffele carded an eagle and three birdies during his final round to finish tied for fifth-place.

The trip to Hawaii will mark the Aztecs final outing of the fall. SDSU will return for the opening of the spring 2013 season on Feb. 17-20 at The Prestige at PGA West in LaQuinta, Calif.
