Four Aztecs, Coach Receive MW Post-Season Accolades

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Three San Diego State volleyball players have been named to the 2012 Mountain West All-Conference team while a fourth was honored as the league's Newcomer of the Year. In addition, Head Coach Deitre Collins-Parker was selected the conference Coach of the Year for leading the Aztecs to their first-ever Mountain West title.

Senior middle blocker Andrea Hannasch and junior outside hitter Reagan Shelton were named to the all-Mountain West team as they were at the conclusion the of the 2011 season. For Hannasch, it marks her third year as a member of the all-league squad.

For the second straight year Aztec junior Johnna Fouch was recognized as an all-conference performer as she was named the Mountain West Setter of the Year just as she was last season.

Sophomore outside hitter Michelle Waber, in her first season at SDSU after transferring from Hawai'i, was named the conference Newcomer of the Year.

In addition, Head Coach Deitre Collins-Parker was voted the Mountain West Coach of the Year after her Aztecs compiled a record of 23-7 overall and 13-3 in league play to earn SDSU's first Mountain West volleyball championship. Collins-Parker was previously named the Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 1998 when she was the head coach at UNLV.

Hannasch finished the regular season ranked among the top 10 in the Mountain West in three categories in league matches including hitting percentage (.307), kills (3.14 per set) and points (3.80 per set). Shelton also finished among the league leaders in kills (3.27 per set) and points (3.72 per set).

Fouch ended the season with an average of 10.88 assists per set and was seventh in the Mountain West in service aces at 0.23 per set. Waber, meanwhile, averaged 2.52 kills per set and hit .207 in her first year as an Aztec. The sophomore from Wildomar, Calif., was named the MVP at a pair of early-season tournaments in 2012.

The Aztecs are preparing for their first-round NCAA Tournament matchup against St. Mary's scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 29, at 5:00 p.m. at USC's Galen Center in Los Angeles. The Trojans will take on Fairfield following SDSU's contest with the winners meeting Friday evening at 7:00 p.m.
