SDSU HOSTS SAN DIEGO, VISITS NEW MEXICO THIS WEEK
After a pair of three-set home wins against conference foes Air Force and Boise State last week, San Diego State concludes a three-game home stand with a contest against 18th-ranked University of San Diego on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 7:00 p.m. on Aztec Court in Peterson Gym. On Saturday (Nov. 17), the Aztecs will be in Albuquerque to take on New Mexico at 11:00 a.m. (MT) in their final road match of the 2012 season. San Diego State (11-3 MW) enters the week in first place in the Mountain West, a half-game ahead of Colorado State (10-3 MW).
STREAKING
San Diego State has won its last nine straight matches and 11 of its last 12. SDSU's last loss came at Boise State on Oct. 11. The nine-match winning streak is the Aztecs longest since the 1995 campaign when they won 12 in a row. That year SDSU finished with a record of 27-5 overall and 13-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. The last season in which San Diego State won as many as 20 matches was 2002 when it finished with a record of 22-12. They enter the week with a record of 20-7 with three regular-season contests remaining.
JACKELS DIGGIN' IT
Libero Kristi Jackels has averaged 5.18 digs per set over SDSU's last six matches. She has recorded 20 or more digs in a match on seven occasions during the 2012 season. Her 422 digs this season ranks 12th in the SDSU single-season list. She is the only player to appear four times on that list as her season dig total each of her four years as an Aztec rank among the all-time SDSU top 10.
HANNASCH LEADS OFFENSE
Andrea Hannasch has averaged 3.33 kills, 1.07 blocks and 1.81 digs per set over the Aztecs' last seven matches. She has reached double figures in kills in six of those seven contests and 12 of the last 14 In the win over Boise State on Nov.10, she averaged 5.33 kills per set while hitting .467. Hannasch is one of two Aztecs (along with Emily Harris) to have recorded at least one block in every match this season.
WABER ON THE OFFENSIVE
Over SDSU's last four matches, Michelle Waber has averaged 4.00 kills and 4.57 points per set. She has been in double figures in kills in each of the last seven contests. In last week's matches against Air Force and Boise State she hit a combined .362. Her .588 hitting percentage vs. Air Force (Nov. 8) marked her high as an Aztec.
FOUCH'S BEST EFFORTS
Setter Johnna Fouch recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 37 assists and 13 digs in the win over Boise State on Nov. 10. She has notched double-double efforts in three of SDSU's last four matches. Over the past five matches Fouch is averaging 3.11 digs per set. Fouch had a season-high 61 assists in the win at Fresno State on Nov. 3.
WORKING OVERTIME
San Diego State has played nine five-set matches this season and has a record of 7-2 in those contests. The Aztecs' mark for most five-set contests in a season is 11 during the 1989 campaign. The last time SDSU had as many as nine five-set matches in a season was in 1988 and this is the seventh time in program history that they have reached that figure. The Aztecs have now gone eight contests without having to play a five-set match, their longest such streak of the season.
MOVING UP THE CHARTS
Three current Aztecs moved into the top 10 on the SDSU career lists in various categories last season and continue to move up the charts.
*** Andrea Hannasch's three-year total of 462 block assists moves her into the number-two spot on the SDSU all-time list. The all-time leader is Jennifer Miller (1989-92) with 480 block assists.
*** Kristi Jackels has compiled 1,807 digs during her time as an Aztec to rank second in that category. Aime Cordeiro (2004-07) is the all-time leader with 1,974 career digs.
*** Setter Johnna Fouch's mark of 3,339 career assists place her third. The second spot is held by Melissa Wright (2000-02) with 3,865 assists.
AZTEC NOTES
The Aztecs have lost back-to-back matches only once this season ... The team's .396 hitting percentage in the victory over Air Force on Nov. 8 was its second-highest of the 2012 campaign ... The Aztecs are hitting .334 as a team over their last three matches ... Defensive specialist Courtney Vaccarello has averaged 2.00 digs per set over the last five matches ... Halle Aiken tied her career best with 11 digs in the win at UNLV on Nov. 1 ... Setter Johnna Fouch (assists-digs) has recorded eight double-doubles this season to lead the team. Outside hitter Michelle Waber (kills-digs) has three and Chloe Mathis (assists-digs) has two while Raegan Shelton and Andrea Hannasch have one (kills-digs) ... Andrea Hannasch and Emily Harris are the only two Aztecs to have started every match this season. Senior Kristi Jackels has also been the starting libero for every match in 2012. They are the only three Aztecs to appear in all 102 sets in 2012.
