SAN DIEGO - San Diego State's Marisa Fraticelli has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 8 Women's Soccer Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced today. The senior midfielder was tabbed to the second team after earning a 3.82 GPA as a nursing major.
There has only been one other Aztec in program history who has garnered All-District honors. Former SDSU women's soccer player Annette Shinn was also named to the second team in 2003.
Fraticelli has contributed to San Diego State's outstanding defense that has recorded 10 shutouts this season, which ties for the second highest in school history with the 2009 Mountain West Tournament Champion squad. The Aztecs have allowed just 11 goals in 2012 and their goals-against average (0.57) ranks 11th in the NCAA this year.
No. 1 seed SDSU (17-1-1) begins its quest for a second Mountain West Tournament championship on Friday when it faces fourth-seeded UNLV (12-3-4). The semifinal matchup is set for 7 p.m. PT at SDSU Sports Deck.
