SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State cross country team will travel across town to compete in the UC San Diego Triton Classic Invitational on Saturday. The women's 6,000-meter race is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. PT, on the North Campus course.
In addition to host UCSD, the Aztecs will compete against Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Los Angeles, Cal State San Bernardino, University of San Diego, San Diego Christian, Loyola Marymount, UC Irvine, Pacific, UNLV, Cal Baptist, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State Northridge, Christian Brothers, Concordia, Hawaii Pacific, Marymount College, Orange Coast College, Point Loma Nazarene, Soka and Southwestern.
SDSU is coming off an 18th place finish at the Stanford Invitational last week, led by senior Marianne Hogan, who finished 28th overall in 21 minutes, 45 seconds. Freshman Laura Vazquez and senior Josefine Koskinen finished second and third, respectively, for the second straight meet, as Vasquez took 63rd (22:15) and Koskinen finished 85th (22:30). Koskinen posted a personal record in the 6K by improving on her former best time of 23:03 which was recorded on Nov. 12, 2011, at the NCAA West Regionals, also in Palo Alto, Calif.
Chelsea Kruthers (169th, 23:27) and Rachel Roesgen (213th, 24:07) rounded out the Aztecs' top-five runners. SDSU's 438 points was a dramatic improvement after coming in 26th in the same meet last year.
The 6K course starts on North Campus Athletic Fields and finishes on the Triton Track. In between there will be varied terrain on grass and dirt trails with sidewalk crossings.
There is limited parking available in front of the Spanos Building, but plenty of spots available in the Hopkins Parking Structure. Follow the Campus Loop Road past the Spanos Building and the track. The HPS will be located on the right side about ½-mile past the Spanos Building.
Real time results will be available at FlashWest.com or on UCSDTritons.com.
