SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The San Diego State baseball team will play an exhibition contest against the University of San Diego on Sunday, Oct. 28, at noon at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The general public is invited to attend and there will be no admission charged.
Stats and results from the game will not count, but the contest will count as one of the 56 regular-season games allotted to NCAA Division I teams during the academic year. The Aztecs recently release their 2012 schedule and have a slate of 54 contests lined up for their 2013 campaign.
Sunday's contest against the Toreros is expected to go 14 innings with both sides utilizing multiple designated hitters in addition the eight field players.
USD is led by returning first-team all-American third baseman Kris Bryant and second-team All-American pitcher Michael Wagner. SDSU, meanwhile, returns its top seven hitters from a year ago including second baseman Tim Zier and outfielder Greg Allen, along with three starting pitchers led by Michael Cederoth.
Sunday's game will be an early preview of both teams' 2013 season-opener as they will face each other in a three-game series at USD's new Fowler Park the weekend of Feb. 15-17.
