COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State senior Melanie Garibaldi has earned Mountain West Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week honor for meets contested from Oct. 16-21, 2012. It is the first Mountain West career honor for the Aztec swimmer.
Garibaldi, a native of Gold Coast, Australia, won three individual events and a relay for the Aztecs in last week's Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Calif. Garibaldi won the 400-yard individual medley (4:20.13), the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:55.22) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.30). Her time in the 1,650 free ranks seventh in the nation.
She also swam the second leg of the winning 800-yard freestyle relay. The team recorded a time of 7:35.27, a mark that ranks 10th in the nation. The Aztecs won the overall team title with 1,349 points over the two-day meet.
Up next for San Diego State is a trip to Albuquerque where it will face New Mexico, Colorado State and New Mexico State in triple dual meets on both Friday, Nov. 3, at 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 3, at 10:00 a.m.
