Aztec Story Lines
- San Diego State starts the second half of Pac-12 Conference action this week at the Pacific Northwest schools, No. 24/19/rv Washington and Oregon State. The Aztecs take on the Huskies on Friday before clashing with the Beavers in a game televised nationally on the Pac-12 Networks.
- The SDSU-UW game is set for Friday at 7 p.m. PT. Live video is available for free via GoHuskies.com. The SDSU-OSU tilt, meanwhile, is set for Sunday at 2 p.m. PT. The Pac-12 Networks can be seen in San Diego on Cox Cable 314, Time Warner Cable 418 and 419, and DISH Network 413.
- The Aztecs finished the first half of Pac-12 play two weeks ago with an 0-4-1 record. Despite going winless, San Diego State played well enough to win in four of the five outings with the lone exception being the loss at Stanford. The Cardinal won, 2-0, and outshot SDSU, 20-5.
- In the opener at California (2ot-L, 1-0), SDSU was 2 minutes, 30 minutes away from earning a double-overtime scoreless draw, but allowed a goal at 107:31. Against Washington, the Aztecs struck in the 12th minute, gave up a goal in the 27th and outshot the Huskies, 22-8, in a 2OT 1-1 tie. In the Oregon State game, the Beavers scored in the 57th minute, but SDSU found itself in the game late and owned a 11-7 advantage in shots, which ended in a 1-0 defeat. Then right before the turn vs. UCLA, San Diego State outshot the Bruins, 27-11, which included a 12-3 effort in the first half. UCLA, however, scored on its first two shot attempts, but the Aztecs clawed their way back and tied the game at 3-3 in the 82nd minute. Unfortunately for SDSU, it allowed a Bruin goal 2 minutes, 4 seconds later and UCLA escaped with the win.
- Sandwiched between the first and second halves of the conference campaign were a pair of non-conference games against Point Loma Nazarene and Clemson. The Aztecs took their frustration out on the Sea Lions by dimissing them, 4-0. Then last Friday, San Diego State went to Clemson and earned a 1-0 overtime win on a night where the Tigers honored their 1987 national championship team that beat SDSU 25 years ago.
- In the victory over the Sea Lions, four different Aztecs scored, including Kody Duff, Casey Meuser, Tyler Smith and Anthony Gooch. The effort marked the second straight game in which SDSU scored at least three goals. Prior to the 4-3 loss to No. 5/4/5 UCLA, San Diego State scored just one goal in its previous four outings.
- Last Friday vs. the Tigers, both teams were equally matched as the game moved into overtime. Then in the 93rd minute, Kevin Bick found Blake Wise, who sent the ball into the middle of the box where Evyn Hewett was waiting. The sophomore defender put a foot on it and the ball sailed over goalkeeper to send the Aztecs home with a season-long two-game winning streak.
- The Aztecs have shutout two straight foes for the first time this season. Entering the Clemson game, SDSU had just two shutouts all season - at No. 8 Indiana (2ot-T, 0-0) and vs. North Florida (W, 9-0).
- Coming into this week's action, the Aztecs rank eighth nationally in assists (34), 14th in scoring offense (2.14) and 21st in goals (30).
- San Diego State enters the game with Washington trailing the all-time series, 4-9-7. The Huskies have had SDSU's number of late having gone unbeaten in four straight (3-0-1). The Aztecs' last win over Washington occurred on Oct. 3, 2010, when they won in overtime, 4-3.
- The Aztecs are 7-10-1 all-time vs. Oregon State. Opposite of the SDSU-UW series, San Diego State has had some success vs. the Beavers, going 3-1 in its last four outings. In those four meetings, the Aztecs have outscored OSU, 7-2.
