FRESNO, Calif. -- The No. 7/13/8 San Diego State's women's soccer team used two goals from senior Megan Jurado, including the game-winner, as the Aztecs picked up a 3-1 victory at Fresno State on Sunday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium. With the win, the Aztecs improve to 14-1-1 and 4-0 in MW action, while Fresno State drops to 4-8-4 and 2-1-1 in conference play.
Jurado scored her first goal of the game in the 54th minute and then tallied her seventh game-winner of the season at the 75:20 mark. Senior Sarah Halverson also got on the board for SDSU as the forward notched her third goal of the season in the 82nd minute.
Both teams wasted little time out of the game, but it was Fresno State that tallied the game's first goal in the 8th minute as Callie Hancock scored off an assist from Kayla Kret. The rest of the first half was a back-and-forth battle, but the Aztecs held a 9-6 advantage in shots.
San Diego State, which had also rallied back from a 1-0 deficit on Friday at UNLV, found the same spark on Sunday against the Bulldogs. Just 8:58 into the second period, the Aztecs took advantage as Jurado took a pass from freshman Victoria Barba and lofted a shot over the head of Fresno State goalkeeper Katie DeVault to tie the contest at 1-1.
Jurado then continued her recent dominance as she tallied her 12th goal of the season in the 76th minute off a pass from junior Jensen Skinner. SDSU wasn't done though, as Halverson put the nail in the coffin at the 81:18 mark on an assist from Jurado.
Fresno State attempted to mount a comeback, but it was unable to get anything past redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Boaz. On the game, SDSU outshot the Bulldogs by a 21-15 margin (9-7 in shots on goal) and also won the corner kick battle (6-3). Boaz played all 90 minutes in goal and notched six saves for her 14th win this season.
The Aztecs will now return home as they play host to Wyoming on Friday. The conference showdown is scheduled for a 7 p.m. PT start at SDSU Sports Deck.
