Men's Golf Continues Fall Schedule In Bay Area

SAN DIEGO -

The San Diego State men's golf team will continue its fall schedule this coming week at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, Oct. 15-16. The Aztecs will play 36 holes on Monday, followed by the final 18 on Tuesday at the par-71, 6,718-yard Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.

SDSU, which has finished in the top 10 of each of its two previous fall events, will be among a highly competitive field of 16 schools, including four foes ranked in the top 50 nationally. The Aztecs are sitting at No. 22 nationally by Golfweek/Sagarin.

San Diego State will face three fellow Mountain West members, Colorado State, Nevada and No. 48 Fresno State.

The Aztecs have competed at the Alister MacKenzie four times previously, taking third in 2011 and placing second in 2010.

Tenth-year head coach Ryan Donovan will bring along senior Tom Berry, who has had a stellar fall season including claiming the individual crown at the Ping-Golfweek Preview which led to Berry being named the Mountain West Golfer of the Month for September. Also making the trip will be sophomore Xander Schauffele, freshman Riccardo Michelini, junior Austin Kaiser and making his 2012 fall debut, junior Cameron Tennant.

SDSU is coming off of a tie for ninth place as a team at the Ping-Golfweek Preview. The Aztecs finished behind a top five that consisted of teams that are all nationally ranked in the top 20. San Diego State completed the three-day tournament with an overall score of 21-over 861.
