SAN DIEGO -

2013 SDSU Water Polo Schedule

The San Diego State women's water polo team announced its 2013 schedule on Friday. The slate includes 12 home games and a new set of league opponents as the Aztecs enter their first year in the Big West Conference.

SDSU opens the campaign at the Michigan Kick-Off where it will play four games over the course of two days starting Jan. 19. After the trip to Ann Arbor, Mich., the Aztecs will compete in the annual alumni game on Jan. 26.

San Diego State will continue its regular season on Feb. 2, when it travels to Riverside, Calif., for the Cal Baptist Invitational. The one-day event will precede the Aztecs' home opener, which is scheduled for a 3 p.m. PT start against Hartwick.

The brief homestand will be in the rearview mirror for the next two weeks when SDSU is slated to play at the UCSD Triton Invitational and the UCI Invitational. The UCSD tournament will run from Feb. 9-10, while the Irvine Invite is scheduled for Feb. 23-24.

A return trip to Irvine, Calif., will be in order the following weekend when the Aztecs open Big West action against UC Irvine on March 2. The league slate continues one week later on March 9, when San Diego State pays a visit to Cal State Northridge. While in the greater Los Angeles area, SDSU will make a stop at old MPSF foe UCLA on March 10 before returning to Montezuma Mesa.

The Aztecs will begin their longest stretch at home starting March 15, when UC Davis heads to SDSU for a conference contest. The next two days, March 16-17, the Aztec Invitational will take place. During the two-day tournament, San Diego State will play four games before playing host to Big West foe Long Beach State on March 22. After the LBSU tilt, the Aztecs will play a doubleheader vs. Brown and Redlands on March 23.

Following the extended time at home, SDSU will travel west to Hawaii where it will play three games in three days. First up for the Aztecs will be UC San Diego on March 28. San Diego State will step back into league action on March 29, when it faces Hawai'i. SDSU will wrap up its stay in Hawaii on March 30 when it takes on Stanford.

One week after its trip to the islands, San Diego State will head north to Santa Barbara for its final league road game of 2013. SDSU and UCSB will hop into the pool on April 6, before the Aztecs close Big West action on April 13 vs. Pacific at Aztec Aquaplex.

The regular-season finale will feature San Diego State and UC San Diego as the schools battle for the Harper Cup. The contest is set for April 20 at Aztec Aquaplex.

After SDSU navigates through its schedule, it will compete for the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament at the Big West Championship in Irvine, Calif. The tourney will run from April 26-28.
