SDSU Cross Country to Hold Community 5K Race

The San Diego State cross country team will host a Community 5K race and Alumni competition following the 68th annual Aztec Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Balboa Park.

The Community 5K is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. PT and is open to runners of all ages, ability and gender. SDSU students, faculty, family and friends are welcome to participate alongside local runners throughout San Diego and Imperial Counties. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in 13 different age groups (8 and under, 9-12, 13-17, 18-23, 24-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, and 65 and over) and each runner will receive a commemorative T-Shirt.

The entry fee is $25 by mailed check, $27.50 through on-line credit card or $30 by cash or check on race day. Participants can enter online at http://finishedresults.com/68th-aztec-xc-invite or by mail with a check and entry form. Forms must be received by Wednesday, Sept. 12 in order to participate. All proceeds will support the SDSU cross country/track and field programs.

The Community 5K will be held in conjunction with the Alumni competition and will use the same course as the Aztec Invitational collegiate women's race. The Alumni competition will crown winners of five different categories: Odd and even graduating years, male and female teams, fastest male and fastest female alumni, earliest graduating class male and female, and most participants from a single graduating class. Participants can mail their registration using the alumni entry form or on-line registration which will ask if you're an alumni and your graduation year.

The Aztec Community 5K is a USA Track and Field sanctioned event, and this will be the fifth time being held.

The Aztec Invitational is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. with the Women's Open 5K, followed by the Women's Invitational at 8:30 a.m., the Men's Invitational (8K) at 9 a.m. and the Men's Open (8K) at 9:30 a.m.
