SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's cross country team will travel to Palo Alto, Calif., to compete in the 39th running of the Stanford Invitational on Saturday. The Aztecs will run in the 6,000-meter race, which will begin at 10:30 a.m. PT on the Stanford Golf Course.
SDSU is coming off of a third-place finish at the 68th Aztec Invitational on Sept. 15. San Diego State was led by senior Marianne Hogan who finished second with a time of 18 minutes, 23.7 seconds. Hogan's second place finish helped the Aztecs to their best finish at the annual invitational since 2005.
Laura Vazquez (fifth place, 18:53.7), Josefine Koskinen (seventh place, 19:09.6), Rachel Roesgen (19th, 19:51.7), Chelsea Kruthers (21st, 19:55.9) and Jessica McCall (24th, 20:02.4) all placed in the top 25 for San Diego State.
Last year, SDSU took 26th at the Stanford Invitational. Hogan was 42nd out of 278 runners at last year's race, completing the 6K course in 21:49. Current San Diego State runners Josefine Koskinen (148th, 23:11), Megan Hughes (261st, 26:02) and Melissa Wendorf (250th, 25:26) also ran at the invite.
The Aztecs will be sending Hogan, Koskinen, McCall, Roesgen, Vazquez, Kruthers and Tanya Valenzuela to Saturday's 6K.
