SAN DIEGO - San Diego State athletic director Jim Sterk announced Monday that SDSU lacrosse coach Kylee White has agreed to a new three-year contract that will run through the 2015 season.
"I'm excited to remain a part of the Aztec family," White said. "I look forward to continuing the development and growth of lacrosse in the West and building on a great foundation set in our inaugural season here at SDSU."
White, who came to Montezuma Mesa on Sept. 17, 2010, led the Aztecs to a 5-10 mark in their first season, including a tie for fifth place in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play.
SDSU's first win as a program came in just its second game of the season as it notched a 14-9 home victory over Cincinnati on Feb. 17. The Aztecs reached another milestone on March 2 as they earned their first-ever MPSF victory against Saint Mary's by an 11-10 margin.
SDSU's next victory came at the perfect time as it picked up a 15-8 victory against Fresno State in the team's final home game of the season. The Aztecs then went on the road to earn a win against Regis (Colo.) and another close victory against Saint Mary's.
White, who has helped coach a second-team All-American and four all-region selections during her career, proved she can do the same at SDSU after having sophomore Meris Walsh earn MPSF Lacrosse Player of the Week honors on March 5. Walsh scored a program single-game record seven goals in SDSU's 11-10 win over Saint Mary's on March 2. The seven goals tied the most by a MPSF player since 2009.
Prior to San Diego State, White served as the first assistant coach at Loyola University in Baltimore, Md. During her two years at Loyola, she helped lead the Greyhounds to a 22-13 combined overall record as well as a trip to the 2010 BIG EAST Tournament for the first time in program history. She has also had stints as an assistant coach at Ohio State (2008), Stanford (2005-07) and Canada's U-19 team (2007).
A native of London, Ontario (Canada), White has played in three IFWLA World Cups for her native country. At the 2009 World Cup, White led the Canadians to its first bronze medal in 27 years. At the 2005 tournament, White ranked in the top five for caused turnovers per game and was nominated for the All-World team. She is currently training to make the Canadian National team, which will participate in the 2013 World Cup held in Oshawa, Ontario (Canada). In 1995, White played on the inaugural U19 Canadian National Team and helped lead the team to the First World Championship, finishing fourth.
A four-year letterwinner at Ohio State, White (then Kylee Reade) was a four-time Buckeye scholar-athlete pick and an Academic All-Big Ten performer on three occasions. She co-captained the 2002 squad to an 11-5 mark, runner-up finish in the American Lacrosse Conference, and Ohio State's first NCAA bid. White caused 28 turnovers in 2001 and still ranks among the OSU all-time leaders in caused turnovers and ground balls. She was also the co-captain of OSU's inaugural women's ice hockey team in 1999-2000.
White, who earned her Bachelor of Science degree in education in 2002, is married to Todd White.
