LONDON - San Diego State track & field assistant coach Dorian Scott finished 10th in the shot put at the Olympic Games Friday in London. Scott, who coaches the Aztec throwers, became the first Jamaican to ever advance to the finals in the shot put.

Scott finished with a best throw of 20.61 meters (67 feet, 7 ½ inches), which came on his second of three attempts in the finals. Poland's Tomasz Majewski won the gold medal with a mark of 21.89 meters (71-10), while Germany's David Storl (21.86m/71-8 ¾) and USA's Reese Hoffa (21.23m/69-8) captured the silver medal and bronze medal, respectively. Forty athletes started the competition.

Scott was one of 12 athletes to make the final after posting the 11th-best mark in the qualification rounds, where he went 20.18m (66-2 ½), 20.30m (66-7 ¼) and 20.31m (66-7 ¾). In the final, he had marks of 19.51m (64-¼) and 20.61m (67-7 ½), before fouling on his final attempt. The best throw of 67-7 ½ in the final moved Scott up to 10th. Scott was 15th at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games with a throw of 19.94m (65-5).

Scott completed his first season with SDSU in June, where he helped guide Whitney Ashley to the NCAA title in the discus throw.
