NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The San Diego State softball team will play host to the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) All-Stars on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012. The NPF game, slated for a 7 p.m. PT start, highlights the Aztecs' fall schedule, which will be released in the next month.
It will be the third consecutive year that SDSU will host Team NPF, which is comprised of athletes from the four NPF teams - Akron Racers, Carolina Diamonds, Chicago Bandits and USSSA Florida Pride - and includes an accomplished list of competitors. Over its two-year history of the NPF Back to School Tour, the team of professional all-stars has posted a 41-1 record with its lone loss coming at Oklahoma on last year's fall tour. The Sooners ended up finishing runner-up at the 2012 Women's College World Series.
"The tour is one of my favorite events of the year for the NPF and this year's schedule is super," NPF Commissioner Cheri Kempf said. "The goal of this tour is to continue to broaden the fan base for professional softball in a competitive environment, and to let many of the college programs we play against celebrate their former players that have gone onto become professionals. We are grateful for, and appreciative of the programs that are so willing to share in that mission with us, and take a crack at the professionals along the way."
Of the 21 games the NPF All-Stars are playing on the tour, only four are located west of Texas. Those four are SDSU (Oct. 26) and Pac-12 powers Washington (Oct. 14), Arizona (Oct. 24) and UCLA (Oct. 27).

SDSU is coming off a 32-24 season in 2012, advancing to the NCAA tournament for a school-record fifth consecutive year and capturing its fifth Mountain West title. San Diego State went 2-2 in the NCAA Los Angeles Regional before being eliminated in the regional championship game for the second straight year, falling just short of the NCAA Super Regionals (equivalent to the Sweet 16). The Aztecs finished with single-season program records in slugging percentage (.466), doubles (79), home runs (58), RBIs (237) and total bases (692), and received votes in both national polls.
