The San Diego State softball had its nine-game winning streak snapped in a 6-1 loss to Boise State Friday night at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs dropped to 27-20 overall and 6-1 in the Mountain West, but still have a ½-game lead on the Broncos (33-16, 7-3 MW).

SDSU gave up five runs over the first two innings and were unable to come up with the key hits in its first loss since March 28. San Diego State left two runners in scoring position with two outs in the bottom of the second inning, a runner on second with two outs in the third, and two runners in scoring position with no outs in the sixth. For the game, the Aztecs were just 1-for-9 (.111) with runners in scoring position and 1-for-10 (.100) with runners on base.

SDSU's run came in the third inning when freshman Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) hit a one out triple and scored on a groundout by sophomore Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS). It was Jordan's fifth triple of the season, which ties a school record set by Shanon Pouelsen (1993) and Stacy Goff (1987).

Jordan was 2-for-3 with the triple and her 10th stolen base of the season, while senior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) was 2-for-3 with a double. Klopp added a double and junior Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) singled for the other hits for San Diego State, which was outhit, 13-6, in the game.

Senior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) took the loss after allowing six runs on 11 hits and a walk over 4 1/3 innings. She had five strikeouts and dropped to 13-7 on the season. Junior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) gave up two hits over 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, while striking out two.

Devon Bridges had two homers for BSU and drove in four runs, while Tara Glover had three hits and two runs. Aubray Zell struck out five and walked one to improve to 20-10 on the year.

The Aztecs and Boise State will play game two of the three-game series at 1 p.m. PT Saturday in a game that will be broadcast live on The Mtn.

NOTES: LF Kayla Jordan's five triples this season are the most ever by an Aztec freshman ... She has now reached base safely in 12 straight games ... SS Hayley Miles went 0-for-4 to snap her consecutive streak of reaching base safely at 33 games ... Miles struck out in her first at-bat, her first strikeout since March 15 against Harvard. She had gone 15 games without a strikeout, 49 at-bats and 63 plate appearances without one.
