SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State sophomores Marissa Shaw and Jennifer Miller have been named national scholar-athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA). Shaw is a nursing major who hails from San Clemente, Calif. (San Clemente HS), while Miller is from Sunnyvale, Calif. (Homestead HS).
Both rowers were also honored at the SDSU Scholar-Athlete banquet in April with Shaw picking up a Malik Award as one of San Diego State's athletes with the highest semester gpa.
Shaw was a member of the Aztecs' Varsity 8 boat in all of SDSU's meets during the spring season, occupying either the two or three position. Miller is a coxswain who competed in either the Varsity 8 or Second Varsity 8 in all of the team's regattas in 2012.
To be eligible for this prestigious award, the student-athlete must be in her second, third or fourth year of eligibility and have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. In addition, the student-athlete must have rowed for the team's eligible boat in at least 75 percent of the spring season with the institution's head coach in good standing with CRCA.
"We are proud of their accomplishments in the classroom," commented Head Coach Jennifer Lewis. "They are excellent role models for the team and SDSU community."
