LOS ANGELES - The San Diego State softball offense was stymied by Hofstra's Olivia Galati in a 2-0 loss Saturday at the NCAA Los Angeles Regional at Easton Stadium on the campus of UCLA. The Aztecs (31-23) will now play the winner of No. 15/14 UCLA and No. 20/20 Florida State at 6 p.m. PT in an elimination game, while the Pride (40-13) won its 19th consecutive game and advanced to the regional championship game at noon PT Sunday.

Galati (32-5), a three-time NFCA all-Northeast Region selection and three-time Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Year, allowed just three SDSU baserunners in the game, while striking out 12 for her 17th solo shutout of the season.

Hofstra got its runs in the top of the second inning, loading the bases on a single by Tessa Ziemba, a single by Krista Thorn and a hit by pitch by Erin Trippi. After Courtney Crews popped up to San Diego State sophomore second baseman Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.), Tori Rocha hit a deep fly ball to freshman left fielder Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS), which allowed Ziemba to score from third base. On the ensuing attempt to get Trippi at second, sophomore shortstop Hayley Miles' (Antelope, Calif.) throw tailed away from Mathis and Thorn raced home and scored the unearned run.

For the Aztecs, Miles led the game off with a single, but Galati retired 13 straight, including 10 via strikeout. Junior Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) broke that streak with a one-out double in the fifth inning. She was replaced at second by redshirt junior Roshana Lavery (San Diego/Mission Bay HS), but Galati got senior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.) to fly out to center field and freshman Fiana Finau (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) on a hard groundout to second base.

In the seventh, senior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) drew a leadoff walk and was replaced by sophomore Dominique Dinner (Monterey, Calif./San Diego Mesa College). Galati, however, retired redshirt sophomore Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) (strikeout), sophomore Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) (groundout) and May (strikeout) in order to end the game.

Redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) was the tough luck loser for SDSU, allowing two runs (one earned) on just four hits (all singles) over seven innings. The right-hander struck out five without issuing a walk. Arbino is now 13-11 on the season.
