LAS VEGAS -

SDSU 11, UNLV 7

Sophomore Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) homered twice for the fourth time this season to lift the San Diego State softball team to an 11-7 victory over UNLV Thursday night in Las Vegas. The win gave the Aztecs (29-21, 8-2 Mountain West) at least a share of the conference title with Boise State (8-4 MW) with still two games to play over the weekend.

Miles led off the game with a home run, her fifth leadoff homer of the season, and added a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning. She now has a school-record 18 homers this year and 23 for her career (No. 2 all-time). Miles finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs and a walk. Her 28 walks this season tie a school record (shared by three others), her 10th SDSU single-season record she has set in 2012.

Senior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa) was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs for San Diego State, which tied a season high with 16 hits in the game.

Junior Kristin May (Corona, Calif.), sophomore Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS), sophomore Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) and freshman Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) added two hits apiece. Mathis and redshirt freshman Iris Castaneda (San Diego/Sweetwater HS) each scored a pair of runs.

Senior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.), who on Tuesday was named the MW Co-Pitcher of the Week, improved to 15-7 on the season after allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk over six innings. She struck out eight and walked one. Redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) gave up one run on three hits, while striking out one in an inning of relief.

The Aztecs and Rebels (21-26, 2-8 MW) play again Friday at 5 p.m. PT. A victory by SDSU would give it the outright league title and automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.

NOTES: Of the school-record 18 homers hit this season by SS Hayley Miles, 10 have put San Diego State in the lead ...
