SDSU 7, NEW MEXICO 0

Redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino tossed a complete game six-hit shutout and sophomore Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) had two solo home runs to give the San Diego State softball team a 7-0 victory and three-game series sweep over New Mexico Sunday in Albuquerque.

The Aztecs improved to 25-19 with their seventh consecutive victory and 6-0 in Mountain West play.

Arbino (12-8) scattered just six hits (all singles) and a walk, while striking out two. The Lobos (24-16, 0-3 MW) came into today's game with a .304 team average, to go along with 69 home runs and a .559 slugging percentage.

SDSU opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when a sacrifice fly by sophomore Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) scored redshirt junior Roshana Lavery (San Diego/Mission Bay HS). After a single by senior Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego/Morse HS), junior Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) scored from second base as sophomore Hayley Miles' (Antelope, Calif.) grounder was muffed by UNM third baseman Stefanie Carramusa.

In the third, senior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) led off with a double and scored on a single by redshirt sophomore Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) to put the visitors up, 3-0.

San Diego State tacked on two more runs in the fifth with freshman Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) and Klopp each hitting solo home runs. It was Jordan's first career homer.

In the sixth, Miles scored on a single by Maeva to give the Aztecs a 6-0 advantage.

Klopp added another home run in the seventh for SDSU's final run of the game. It was her 11th of the season and 26th of her career, which extended her school record. She became the second San Diego State player with three career two-homer games, joining Miles (no Aztec has hit three home runs in a game).

SDSU had 14 hits in the contest, including three homers. The three home runs give San Diego State 44 on the year in 44 games, which breaks the single-season school record of 42, set last year in 55 games.

Klopp (2 R, 2 RBIs) and Maeva (R, RBI) each went 3-for-4 to lead the Aztec offense. Jordan and May added two hits apiece, while Jackson and Mathis singled and had an RBI.

Miles, meanwhile, was 0-for-2, which snapped her 12-game hitting streak, but did walk twice (one intentionally) and was hit by a pitch. She has now reached base safely (via hit, walk or hit by pitch) in 31 straight games.

SDSU plays host to Cal State Fullerton in a non-league game at 6 p.m. PT Wednesday.
