Sophomore Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) hit two home runs for the second consecutive game to lead the San Diego State softball team to a 12-6 victory over New Mexico Saturday in Albuquerque. The Aztecs improved to 24-19 with their sixth consecutive victory and extended their Mountain West lead to two games with a perfect 5-0 record.
Miles led off the game with a homer for the third consecutive contest and added a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning. She now has three of the nine two-homer games in program history (no SDSU player has ever had three in a game). Miles finished the game 2-for-3 with four runs, three RBIs and two walks. She has now reached base safely in 30 straight games and has a hit in 12 consecutive contests.
Senior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) and sophomore Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) each went 3-for-5 for San Diego State, which outhit the Lobos (24-15, 0-2 MW), 13-5. Maeva had two doubles and drove in three runs, while Klopp homered and had two RBIs.
Senior Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego/Morse HS) was 2-for-3 with two runs and a walk, redshirt sophomore Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) doubled, walked, had two RBIs and two runs, and freshman Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) had two walks, two runs, a stolen base and was hit by a pitch. Senior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.) added an RBI double and two walks.
Senior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) went the distance for the Aztecs in the circle, allowing six runs on five hits and four walks over seven innings. She struck out six against a team that came into the game with a .309 batting average, 66 home runs and 239 RBIs, to improve to 11-8 on the year.
SDSU and UNM will wrap up its three-game series at 1 p.m. MT Sunday.
NOTES: SS Hayley Miles already has four single-season school records (eight if the season ended today - batting average, etc.) and is climbing the charts in two others - RBIs (36, T-6th) and walks (23, 9th) ... In MW play, Miles is hitting .625 (10-for-16) with five homers, 12 RBIs, 10 runs and six walks in five league games ... San Diego State tied its season high with eight walks (also Friday night at New Mexico) ... The Aztecs improved to 13-3 when they score in the first inning, 18-7 when they score first, 18-4 when they are leading after five innings and 17-3 when they outhit their opponent.
