Sophomore Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) tied a school single-game record with two homers and drove in four runs to power the San Diego State softball team past New Mexico, 8-3, Friday night in Albuquerque, N.M.

The Aztecs improved to 23-19 overall with their season-high fifth consecutive victory. Additionally, SDSU moved into first place in the Mountain West with a 4-0 record, one game better than Boise State (3-1), which lost earlier today at Colorado State, 5-3.

It is the second time Miles has hit two homers in a single game (also May 21, 2011 vs. Long Beach State), which joins classmate Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) as the only players in program history with two, two-homer games (Klopp accomplished the feat last season). It is happened eight times altogether in school history, including six times in the last two years.

With the three runs, she set another single-season school record with 44 on the season, breaking a tie with Tiffany Goudy (2002). Miles also extended her reaches base safely streak to 29 games and hit streak to 11 contests.

Redshirt junior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) also homered for San Diego State, which is now 16-6 this season when someone on the team hits at least one home run. It was Jackson's sixth of the year.

Senior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) had two hits, a walk and an RBI, while junior Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif./UC Santa Barbara) recorded and RBI single and scored a run. Senior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.) and junior Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) each added a single and a run apiece.

Redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) picked up the victory in the circle for the Aztecs after allowing three runs on four hits and a walk over five innings. She struck out three Lobos (24-14, 0-1 MW), who came into the game with a .309 batting average, 66 home runs and 239 RBIs, to improve to 11-8 on the year.

Senior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) tossed two scoreless innings of relief, giving up two hits and no walks. She had one strikeout.

SDSU and UNM will play game two of the three-game series at 3 p.m. MT Saturday in a game that will be broadcast live nationally on The Mtn.
