FRESNO, Calif. - The San Diego State softball team swept a doubleheader on the first day of the Bayer CropScience Classic Friday in Fresno, Calif. The Aztecs (15-11) defeated Butler, 10-2, in six innings and downed Connecticut, 8-3, in the nightcap.

In the opener, SDSU scored five times in the first and never looked back in a 10-2, run-rule win over the Bulldogs (4-7). Freshman Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a triple, while sophomore Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) was 2-for-4 with two runs and a triple.

Senior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS), senior Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego/Morse HS) and redshirt sophomore Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) each scored two runs apiece for San Diego State, while senior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.), junior Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif./UC Santa Barbara), junior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.), junior Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) and Jackson each had solo RBIs.

Redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif./Texas A&M) got the win after allowing two runs (none earned) on five hits and a walk over five innings. Arbino (7-4) struck out one before giving way to Kamerin May, who gave up one hit in an inning of relief.

In the nightcap, the Aztecs the final seven runs of the game in an 8-3 win over the Huskies (1-5).

Maeva and freshman Fiana Finau (San Diego/Hilltop HS) each went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs for SDSU, which outhit UConn, 8-4.

Miles had two hits, two runs, a walk and an RBI, and has now reached base safely in 13 consecutive games (seven straight with a hit). Corder also scored two runs for San Diego State.

Senior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) got the win after tossing a perfect four innings of relief. She struck out two and improved to 6-2 on the year. Kamerin May started and yielded three runs on four hits with a strikeout over three innings.

The Aztecs face their biggest test thus far of the season tomorrow with a game against No. 2/1 California at 1:15 p.m. PT.
