SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State softball team scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back en route to an 8-0, run-rule victory in five innings over Maine Tuesday at SDSU Softball Stadium.

In the first, the Aztecs (13-11) scored six times on six hits, including three doubles, off Black Bear (4-11) starter Kylie Sparks. The six runs came off the bats of sophomore Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) (two-run double), redshirt sophomore Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) (sacrifice fly), freshman Kaitlin Connors (San Diego/La Costa Canyon HS) (RBI single) and junior Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif./UC Santa Barbara) (two-run double).

Klopp homered for the eighth time of the season in the second for another run before redshirt freshman Wendy Tamayo (San Diego/Mater Dei Catholic HS) ended the run-rule game in the fifth with a double just off the glove of Maine center fielder Lindsey Jenkins. The play allowed Jackson, who singled and advanced to third on a fielding error by Jenkins to lead off the frame, to score after she waited to see if the ball was going to be caught.

Klopp led the SDSU offense with two hits, three RBIs and two runs, while seven others added one hit apiece.

Redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif./Texas A&M) and junior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) combined on a three-hit shutout over the Black Bears. Arbino (6-4) got the win after allowing just one hit and a hit batter over four innings. She struck out four. May came in and gave up two singles in an inning of relief.

San Diego State travels to Fresno, Calif., for the Bayer Cropscience Classic where it will take on Butler (9 a.m. PT) and Connecticut (11:30 a.m. PT) on Friday, No. 2/1 California (1:15 p.m. PT) on Saturday, and Purdue (8:45 a.m. PT) and No. 18/15 Oregon (10:45 a.m. PT) on Sunday.
