SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State lacrosse team rallied from an eight goal deficit midway through the second half but ran out of time in an 18-16 loss to Detroit Tuesday night at Aztec Lacrosse Field. The Aztecs fell to 2-3 with the loss, while the Titans improved to 1-3.

SDSU trailed, 14-6, with 16:30 remaining when Detroit's Emily Boissonneault scored on a free-position opportunity. San Diego State responded with the next four goals, including two by Jackie Mills (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) and one each by Sophie Koubek (Rockville, Md.) and Christina Ricciardulli (Poway, Calif./Poway HS), to close within four at 14-10 with 11:30 left.

A Corina Mahorn goal by the Titans put the lead back up to five, but Lauren Maack (Coronado, Calif./Coronado HS) and the reigning MPSF Player of the Week Meris Walsh (Easton, Md.) answered to bring the Aztecs to within three goals at 15-12.

The two teams traded goals over the next five with Anna Eidem scoring an unassisted goal with 2:18 left to put Detroit up, 18-14. SDSU continued its late push as Madeline Ross (Severna, Md.) scored off a pass from Bailey Ewing (Reisterstown, Md.) before Isabelle Pickett (Adelaide, Australia) scored the final goal of the game with just two seconds left, ending the game at 18-16 in favor of the Titans.

San Diego State ended up outscoring Detroit, 10-4, over the final 16:30 and 11-8 in the second half. Additionally, the Aztecs outshot the Titans, 37-28, for the game, including a 21-10 advantage in the second 30.

Walsh scored four times to lead the SDSU offense, while Ewing had a team-high five points on one goal and four assists. Ricciardulli and Mills scored three goals apiece, and Koubek added two scores.

Pickett recorded a team-high four draw controls, and Madison Wallace (Chantilly, Va.) and Nicole Pullano (Glenview, Ill.) had three ground balls apiece.

Sammy Slattery (Carlsbad, Calif./Palomar College) started and made five saves in 54:42, while allowing 17 goals. Katelyn Luker (Takoma Park, Md./Virginia Tech) played the final 5:18 and gave up one goal and did not make a save.

Boissonneault scored a game-high seven goals for Detroit, while Eidem chipped in with five tallies. Lexie McCormick played all 60:00 and had 11 saves.

San Diego State welcomes California in a MPSF game at 1 p.m. PT Saturday.
