Sophomores Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) and Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) each homered to give the San Diego State softball team a 7-1 victory over Long Beach State Sunday afternoon in the final game of the San Diego Classic I in Santee, Calif. The game was a rematch of last year's NCAA Tempe Regional, where each team split a game with the Aztecs (12-11) eliminating the 49ers (7-15) to get to the final.

Today, Klopp gave SDSU the early lead when she led off the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run. It was her seventh homer of the season, which is already tied for the second most in a season in program history. Klopp, the all-time home run leader at San Diego State, already has 22 home runs for her career just 23 games into her second season, five more than the previous record of 17. Of her seven homers this season, five have given the Aztecs the lead.

LBSU answered with a score of its own in the third when Shayna Kimbrough scored on a fielder's choice groundout by Karli Sandoval.

It was all SDSU the rest of the way, however, as it put up two runs each in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning en route to the 7-1 win.

Senior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.) and junior Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) each had RBI singles in the fourth, freshman Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) (double) and Rose (single) drove in runs in the fifth and Miles hit a two-run home run in the sixth to account for San Diego State's runs.

Miles now has six homers in 23 games this year (T-5th in Aztec single-season history), one more than she had last year in 55 contests. Her 11 career home runs are tied for eighth in program history.

Rose led the SDSU offense by going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Klopp (RBI) and Miles (two RBIs) each went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run, while Jordan scored two runs.

Junior redshirt Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif./Texas A&M) went the distance for San Diego State, allowing the lone run on nine hits and three walks. She struck out two and stranded 13 Long Beach State baserunners, including bases loaded opportunities in the third and fifth.

The Aztecs play host to Maine at 6 p.m. PT Tuesday before competing in the Bayer Cropscience Classic in Fresno, Calif., next weekend.
