EASTON, Pa. -
The San Diego State lacrosse team received five points apiece from Meris Walsh and Bailey Ewing, but it wasn't enough to overcome a combined 14 points by Addie Godfrey and Ana White in a 17-14 loss at Lafayette Wednesday in Easton, Pa. The loss dropped the Aztecs to 3-7 on the season, while the Leopards improved to 7-5.
Down by five goals at 16-11 with 8:19 left in the second half, SDSU scored three straight on goals by Walsh, Ewing and Walsh over the next 4:02. Trailing by just a 16-14 margin, however, White scored the game's final goal with 2:50 remaining to seal the win for the home team.
Walsh led San Diego State with four goals and an assist, while Ewing had three goals and two helpers. Walsh had a team-high seven shots, and Ewing and Christina Ricciardulli chipped in with five and four attempts, respectively.
Ricciardulli had a team-high three ground controls, and Sophie Koubek and Lauren Maack each caused two turnovers. Five Aztecs - Kelly Jones, Koubek, Lauren Paul, Sammy Slattery and Madison Wallace - had two ground balls apiece for SDSU.
Slattery played all 60 minutes in net and made seven saves.
Godfrey (five goals, two assists) and White (four goals, three assists) paced Lafayette, which outshot San Diego State, 32-25, and also owned advantages in draw controls (23-10) and ground balls (20-15).
The Aztecs look to get back on the winning track at noon ET Friday, when they take on Saint Francis in Easton, Pa.
