The San Diego State softball team dropped an 8-0, five-inning decision at No. 19/17 Arizona Tuesday night in Tucson, Ariz.

The Aztecs (18-18) left the bases loaded in the top of the second inning and the host Wildcats (20-8) responded with five runs in the bottom half, including three unearned scores thanks to an SDSU error. UA tacked on three more runs in the fourth to hand San Diego State just its second run-rule defeat of the season.

The Aztecs had six hits in the game, but left six on base and at least one runner in every inning but the fourth. Arizona, meanwhile, countered with nine hits, including three home runs (two by Brigitte Del Ponte) and a double.

Sophomore Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) singled and has now reached base safely in 23 consecutive games, while senior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) singled to stretch her hitting streak to seven contests. Senior Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego/Morse HS), junior Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif./UC Santa Barbara), junior Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) and freshman Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) also singled for SDSU.

Redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif./Texas A&M) took the loss after allowing eight runs (five earned) on nine hits and a walk over four innings. She struck out two and dropped to 8-8 on the season.

San Diego State and the Wildcats meet again at 3 p.m. MST (also 3 p.m. PDT) Wednesday.
