The San Diego State lacrosse team began a seven-game road trip with a 10-8 loss to La Salle Sunday in Philadelphia. The Aztecs fell to 3-6 on the season, while the host Explorers improved to 7-2.
With the game tied at 4-4 with 7:42 left in the first half on Bailey Ewing's free-position goal, La Salle scored five of the next six goals to opening up a 9-5 advantage with 21:37 left in the second half. SDSU closed hard; scoring three of the final four goals in the game but ran out of time in the 10-8 setback.
Ewing led the San Diego State offense with three goals and an assist. Five others - Kelly Jones, Sophie Koubek, Christina Ricciardulli, Catherine Shepardson and Meris Walsh - added solo scores for the Aztecs. Ewing (6) and Walsh (4) had a combined 10 shots for SDSU, which was outshot, 29-19, in the contest.
Ricciardulli had a team-high three ground balls, while Lauren Maack, Falon Manns, Lauren Paul and Walsh picked up two apiece. Koubek led the team with three draw controls, and Ricciardulli, Shepardson and Madison Wallace had two each. Koubek additionally let the squad with two caused turnovers.
Sammy Slattery played all 60 minutes between the posts and had 12 saves.
San Diego State continues its stay in Pennsylvania Wednesday with a game at Lafayette at 5 p.m. ET.
