The San Diego State softball team rallied back from a pair of two-run deficits but yielded a run in the top of the seventh inning in a 6-5 loss to Purdue Friday at the San Diego State Classic II. The loss dropped the Aztecs to 16-16 on the season, while the Boilermakers improved to 15-8.

The decisive inning began when Danielle Fletcher hit a one-out single and Ashley Courtney followed with a double to left-center field.

SDSU came back from a 2-0 deficit in the bottom of the first on back-to-back singles by senior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) and redshirt sophomore Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.). Down by a 5-3 margin, San Diego State then scored solo runs in the fourth and fifth off the bats of senior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.) (RBI double) and Maeva (sacrifice fly).

Maeva (two RBIs) and Jackson (RBI) each had two hits for the Aztecs, who had nine total in the game. Rose drove in two runs and freshman Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) was 1-for-1 with a triple, two walks and a run. Sophomore Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.), meanwhile, singled, walked and scored two runs and has now reached base safely in 19 consecutive games.

Senior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) took the loss after allowing two runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings. Micetich (7-5) had seven strikeouts. Redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif./Texas A&M) started the game and gave up four runs (two earned) on two hits and three walks over 2 1/3 innings.
