SAN DIEGO - Senior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) and redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif./Texas A&M) combined for a two-hitter to give the San Diego State softball team a 4-1 victory over Quinnipiac Tuesday night at SDSU Softball Stadium.

Micetich (7-3) tossed four innings of hitless ball without surrendering a walk, while striking out six. The only Bobcat (9-5) to reach off Micetich was via an error in the top of the second inning. Arbino, meanwhile, allowed two hits (both singles) over the final three innings, while striking out three to pick up her third save of the season.

Senior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) and redshirt sophomore Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) gave the Aztecs (16-14) all the runs they would need in the bottom of the first when they hit back-to-back home runs. It was the fourth time this season that SDSU has hit back-to-back homers and the third time that Jackson has been a part of one. San Diego State has 29 home runs this year in just 30 games, which is already the second most in a season in program history (last year's team is No. 1 with 42 in 55 games).

The Aztecs tacked on two insurance runs in the third when Jackson drew a bases loaded walk and freshman Fiana Finau (San Diego/Hilltop HS) followed with an RBI single. SDSU, however, left the bases stranded with a lineout and a groundout.

After being held hitless over the first five innings, QU's Bridget Figmic reached on a San Diego State fielding error and moved to second on a wild pitch. Lauren Salgado followed with a single to left field and its first hit of the night before Figmic scored on a double steal. Arbino retired the next three batters with a groundout, a popout and a strikeout to end the threat.

Alex Alba hit a one-out double in the seventh for the other hit for the Bobcats.

Maeva was a perfect 3-for-3 with the homer to lead the Aztec offense, while Jackson homered, walked and drove in two runs. Sophomore Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) singled in the third to extend her hitting streak to 11 games (and also her reaching base streak to 17 games) and scored her team-leading 30th run of the year, while junior Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif./UC Santa Barbara) singled and scored SDSU's other run.

San Diego State co-hosts the San Diego Classic II this weekend games against Harvard (7 p.m. PT) on Thursday, Purdue (7 p.m. PT) on Friday, Quinnipiac (2 p.m. PT) and Valparaiso (4:30 p.m. PT) on Saturday, and Long Beach State (2 p.m. PT) on Sunday.
