FRESNO, Calif. - The San Diego State softball team lost a pair of games on the final day of the Bayer CropScience Classic Sunday afternoon in Fresno, Calif. The Aztecs (15-14) dropped the opener to Purdue, 2-1, and fell in the nightcap to No. 18/15 Oregon, 6-0.
In the opener, San Diego State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when sophomore Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) scored on a single by senior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS).
The Aztecs held the lead until the bottom of the sixth, when the Boilermakers (12-5) used a pair of solo home runs by Tori Chiodo (inside the park) and Danielle Fletcher.
SDSU senior Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego/Morse HS) had a two-out single in the seventh, but a groundout ended the game and gave San Diego State the loss.
The Aztecs outhit Purdue, 9-5, but left eight on base. Reifschneider had three hits and stole a base, while Maeva had two hits. Redshirt sophomore Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) singled and drew a walk, and freshman Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) singled and stole a base.
Redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif./Texas A&M) took the loss after allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over six innings. She had four strikeouts.
In the nightcap, the Ducks (18-3) put up four runs in the top of the first and never looked back in a 6-0 win over SDSU.
Miles, Jackson and senior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.) had San Diego State's three hits, while Reifschneider and freshman Fiana Finau (San Diego/Hilltop HS) got on base via a walk.
Senior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) was saddled with the loss after giving up six runs (three earned) on seven hits and four walks. She had four strikeouts.
The Aztecs look to stop a three-game losing streak Tuesday with a 6 p.m. PT game against Quinnipiac.
