Junior Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif./UC Santa Barbara) scored on a walkoff single by senior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.) with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the San Diego State softball team a 1-0 victory over Brigham Young Thursday night at SDSU Softball Stadium. It was the third 1-0 game in the Aztec-Cougar series over the last two years (four meetings) and the fourth one-run decision in the past five meetings.

The decisive inning began when Corder blooped a ball to the left filed line that just bounced off the glove of the running BYU (9-7) shortstop JC Clayton. After the double, Corder moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS). Following a flyout and a four-pitch walk to senior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS), Rose ripped a 1-0 pitch over the Brigham Young right fielder for the walkoff RBI.

Redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif./Texas A&M) tossed a complete game shutout for SDSU, which improved to 10-8 overall in its 12th contest against a 2011 NCAA tournament team this season. Arbino allowed five hits and two walks, while striking out a season-high eight batters and getting out of numerous jams.

Arbino stranded eight Cougars on the day, including runners on the corners with one out in the top of the seventh and bases loaded with two outs in the first. The right-hander has given up just one earned run over her last 21 innings in three games (0.33 ERA) and four over her last 42 frames (0.67 ERA).

Maeva reached base safely twice on the day with a single and a walk, while Corder and sophomore Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) each doubled before Rose's game-winning single.

San Diego State continues its play in the San Diego Classic I tomorrow in Santee with games against Fresno State (4:30 p.m. PT) and Charlotte (7 p.m. PT).
